Paramecium
Paramecium belong to the Protozoa, single celled animals, and occur in large numbers in freshwaterponds. It is one of the largest single celled organisms, and with 0.3 mm it is visible to the naked eye. In English as well as in other countries they are named "slipper animals", since they look a bit like a slipper as you can observe from the image. They feed on smaller organisms such as bacteria. The organism is covered with cilia, hairlike structures that enable it to swim, and are also used for feeding. Under suitable conditions it may reproduce by dividing two or three times a day(Morgan, 1995).
