African salmons Characins Characoidei
This family occurs both in South-America and in Africa. Characins are frequently kept aquarium fish, although in general there are only a few african species that are commonly available in aquarium stores. Red eyed characins and congo tetras are among those, but if you ever get the chance try keeping the beautiful fish from the Neolebias family.
