Brachydanio albolineatus, Blyth, 1860

Origin: Thailand, Burma, Malaysia; Malakka, Indonesia; Sumatra. Here the fish occur in beeks and rivers.

Etymology: albolineatus refers to the stripe on the body.

Synonyms: Danio albolineata, Nuria albolineata

First European import: Germany, 1911, by the firm Scholze & Pötzschke.

Care: This fish normally occurs in the middle of rivers, and the requirements are similar, some current and lots of free swimming space. An 80 cm tank is the minimum, and it shouldn't be densely planted. water shouldn't be too hard, and around neutral. Hardy fish that does well in a community tank as long as it's kept in schools of 4 or more fish. Tank should be covered, the fish can jump well.

Temperature: 20-30 degrees.

Feeding: Omnivorous, all food is taken. Small insects like drosophila should occasionally be fed.

Size: up to 6 cm.

pH: 6.5-7.5

Breeding: Large tank(80-100cm) with lowered waterlevel, 15-20 cm, best to create a slope, going upwards towards the right and the back. Plants or filtercotton as a substrate. Temperature around 28 degrees. Can be bred in pairs, or more males to females

Sexual dimorphism: Females are larger and thicker, easy distinguishable.
