European import: Germany, 1911,
by the firm Scholze & Pötschke. Description:See pictures Care: Clear water and a sunny location are required. Larger tanks, with lots of free swimming space, planted regions on the sides of the tank. In such a setup a group of minimum 5 animals can be kept. Waterconditions, neutral to slightly acidic water, soft. Frequent watrchanges are required. Temperature:23-25 degrees. Feeding:Omnivorous. Size:Up to 5 cm. pH: 6.0-7.5 Breeding: Similar to all brachydanio species. Lowered waterlevel, a bit higher temperatures, and strong live food should be supplied to a suitable pair. Not every pair will breed, the fish form pairs, and usually do not breed with other fish. Up to 400 eggs are laid which will sink to the bottom of the tank. Protect the eggs from the parents. Eggs will hatch in 4 days, and should be fed infusoria in the beginning. Sexual dimorphism: Males are clearly thinner than the females. Prices:Netherlands: 2.25€ Additional: Can be crossed with other Brachydanio species, but the offspring is always infertile.
