Danio
kyathit, Fang, 1998 No known common name Origin:
Myitkyina, Kachin state, northern Myanmar. Here the fish were found in a small
stream with clear, brownish and fast running water with deep bamboo forest on
both banks, more than 80% shaded, with mud and small stones on the bottom. Etymology: kyathit: ? Synonyms: None Class: Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes) Order: Cypriniiformes Family: Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps) First European import: Unknown. The fish in the picture were available in the Netherlands in 2003. Description: See picture(s) Care: Shy fish, that should be kept in larger schools in larger tanks. The waterlevel should be around 20-30 cm, subdued light, best with a dark soil and well planted. (Observations from wildcaught fish, it may be that tank bred specimens are less difficult to keep). Temperature:cr°C Feeding:Omnivorous, all food is accepted Size: Up to 5 cm pH: 6.5-7.5 Breeding: Not difficult. Well fed and well kept fish will spawn in a breeding tank, the watervalues are not critical, they will spawn in slightly alkaline and medium had water..The white eggs will hatch after three to four days, and be free swimming a day later.
Sexual dimorphism: When in breeding condition, the males exhibit a reddisch region between the gillcovers and the ventral fins.
