Etymology: auratus, means golden

Synonyms: Cyprinus auratus

First European import: Unk, the oldest breeding report is from The Netherlands, 1728.Goldfish, Carassius auratus

Care: The average goldfishbowl is designed to torture the fish! Keep the fish in a large 1 metertank(better 1.5m), which should be well filtered, and receive frequent waterchanges!

Temperature: 5-25 degrees

Feeding: Omnivorous, al food is accepted.

Size: Up to 35 cm

pH: 6.0-8.5

Breeding: Easy, well cared for fish will frequently spawn. Over a 100 eggs are laid, which will hatch in 4-6 days, and can immediately be fed artemia.

Sexual dimorphism: Females much fatter.

Prices: 0.5-100€

Additional: Goldfish can live 40 years, but the majority dies within half a year.
