![]() Epalzeorhynchus frenatus, Fowler, 1934 Origin: Thailand, northern areas. Etymology:
Synonyms:Labeo frenatus, Fowler, 1934, Labeo erythrurus, Fowler, 1937. First European import:1953 Description: See pictures. A greyish body, similar to Epalzeorhynchus bicolor, but in Epalzeorhynchus frenatus all fins are red. An albino form has been bred as well. Care: Epalzeorhynchus frenatus requires larger tanks, preferably with a sandy soil, and lots of hideouts. The fish are suitable for the community tank, since they do not have any particular waterrequirements, as long as the water is not too hard. Epalzeorhynchus frenatus builds territoria, and can be quite aggressiv towards other fish of it's own species. Older fish can also become aggressiv towards other species. If more then one of these fish are kept in the same tank, lots of driftwood and hidouts should be provided to enable all fish to establish their own territorium. Since the fish also require some free swimming space, keeping more than one Epalzeorhynchus frenatus should only be attempted in larger tanks, 1.20 cm and up. Temperature: 22-26 degrees. Feeding: Omnivorous, the fish will also eat algae. Size: Up to 15 cm. pH: 6.0-8.0 Breeding: The fish has been bred in aquaria, currently no information available. Sexual dimorphism: males are thinner, and have a black seam in the anal fin. Prices:Unk Additional: Picture references:Picture 1 + 2: E. Naus References:Baensch, H.
