Origin: Thailand Etymology: Unk. Synonyms: Unk First European import: Germany, 1956, By the firm Werner. Description: See pictures. Care: These algae eaters can adapt to virtually any surrounding. They appreciate some hiding places, although that means the fish will hardly be seen. As they are very territorial, it's not wise to keep more than 1 fish in a 80 cm tank or smaller. Older and larger fish have been known to terrorise complete tanks. The fish are best kept in clean fresh water with strong currents, and a bit higher temperatures.
Feeding: Algae, but also live frozen and flake food. Some vegetables, like a piece of cucumber, should be added to the tank occasionally. Size:
Up to 27 cm. pH: 6.0-8.5 Breeding: Unknown. The fish can be bred from 12 cm and up, and has been bred in fishfarms, but no reports have been found. Sexual dimorphism: Unk. Prices: Netherlands: 1.5-2€ Additional: An albino form has been bred as can be seen in the picture on the right. Picture references:Pictures: E. Naus References:Baensch, H.
