![]() Bacteriosis pinnarum, Finrot. Type: Bacterial, the disease can be caused by several Aeromonas species and Pseudomonas fluorescens, but also by Haemophilus piscium. Symptoms: The fins of the fish are rapidly deteriorating, especially the caudal and dorsal fins are infected. Sometimes evem the skin of the fish is infected, causing it to "fall" of the body. The first symptoms are milkish white tips of the fins, especially the brestfins. The disease is considered highly contagious by some, although this isn't always the case. It probably depends on the type of finrot. Sometimes a whole aquarium is infected, but it also happens that only a single fish, or all fish of a particular species are infected. Description: See pictures Infections:
The main cause of this disease is pollution! This
is the first thing to check for and fix, prior to adding any treatment. Treatments: - Longterm baths in chloromycetine, sulfapyrimidine, hostacycline or trypaflavin(1 gram per 100 liter) - Chloramphenicol(60 mg per liter) treatment for 6 days - Longterm frequent waterchanges(20% daily) and a higher temeperature Temperature: Best to raise the temperature a few degrees, but only in combination with treatment, or after frequent waterchanges. Feeding: The fish can and should be fed well, varied live foods! Quarantine period for new fish, and for treated fish: 10 days. Additional: Weakened fish are especially susceptible. If the disease occurs it may be secondary to a fishtuberculosis or an Ichthyosporidium infection. The infected areas are vulnerable to fungus attacks(Mycosen, especially Phycomycetes, Saprolegnia or Achlya). Picture references: All pictures E.
