atropurpureus Origin: Asia: Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia and the Philippines
Etymology: Synonyms: None Class: Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes) Order: Perciformes Family: Gobiidae (Gobies) subfamily: none First European import: Unknown. A shipment arrived in the Netherlands in 2005. Description: See pictures. Juveniles show the same color / pattern as females. Care: Flowing water, Temperature: 22-28 °C Feeding: Algae, spirulina tablets, flakes, small live food.
Size: up to 8 cm pH: 6.0-7.5 Breeding: Some Stiphodon species breed in freshwater, but the eggs/fry need brackish or saline water. Sexual dimorphism: Male much more colorfull.
