Pistia
stratoides, Linnaeus, 1753 Origin: Occurs world-wide in tropical and sub tropical regions, mostly in standing waters. Height: 20 cm Light: Very high KH: 2-24 pH: 6-8.5 T: 15-30 Additional: This plant usually grows badly in aquaria, and becomes smaller and smaller. The plant does best in tanks without a cover, not becuase of water, but since it will get more light. Requires lots of food(NO3). A fully grown plant can measure up to 80 cm in diameter! Downside of these plants are the roots, part of the roots will fall off regularlt, and can cause the filter(-inlet) to clog. References: De Wit. Kasselman.
