![]() Corydoras haraldschultzi, Knaak, 1962 Origin: Brazil: Goias, Rio Tocatins. Other reports: Mato Grosso, Upper Rio Guapore, and from Rio Araguaia?(Could be a result of mixups with Corydoras araguaiensis) Etymology: Named in honour of Harald Schultz. Synonyms: None. First European import: 1959, by Harald Schultz. Description:See
pictures. Similar coloration as Corydoras araguaiaensis and Corydoras
sterbai. Care: Keep the fish in schools of minimum 6, in not too small tanks. Water neutral to slightly acidic and rich in oxygen, frequent waterchanges are required. Susceptible to nitrates, and best kept in large tanks. Suitable for a community tank as long as the requirements are met. Temperature: 23-25 degrees. Feeding: Omnivorous, all food is taken. Size: Up to 7 cm. pH: 6.0-7.5 Breeding:
Not too difficult, spawns in the typical T-formation. A group consisting of more
males than females should be placed in a breeding tank. The tank should be filled
with fresh, aged water, and frequent waterchanges should be conducted. These fish
take a long time to spawn, only a few eggs are laid every hour, and spawning can
take up to 3 days. The large(up to 2mm) up to 40 eggs eggs will hatch in 4 to
5 days(24 degrees), depending on the temperature, and are fully free swimming
two days later.. According to Lambourne, the parents do not eat the eggs. The fish
have been spawned in neutral as well as in soft, peat filtered water with a pH
of 6. A lowered waterlevel can be beneficial, and the coldwater waterchanges have
also been succesful. Sexual dimorphism: Females larger, and more plump. Prices: Between 7 and 10 €. Additional: Very hard to distinguish from Corydoras sterbai, although the juveniles are different from eachother(Juvenile haraldschultzi have a similar color pattern as the parents after a few weeks, juvenile sterbai take more tha two months before the orange can be observed in the fins). Fully grown fish have brown spots on a whitish underground on the head, while Corydoras sterbai has whitisch spots on a dark underground. Picture references: All pictures E.
