|
|
I bought a pair of these macropods 4 days ago and yesterday they spawned in a 35 liters tank!
To my big surprise the male doesn't chase the female away, but seems to accept her even in the vicinity of the bubble nest!?
Are they always this friendly?
I always regarded macropods to be very aggresive fish, so I haven't kept them since childhood.
Anyway my question is should I remove the female or can she go together with the male, and how about when the fry hatch and start to swim around will the parents eat them?
Regards

Well, I did remove the female yesterday, and today when I looked in the aquarium the nest is full of little fryes hanging among the bubbles!
The male seems to be a good caring father, probably not first time that he has taken care of babies!
Here's a photo taken yesterday:
So far so good!

Hi,
I kept them in a meter tank, two pairs, and there was continuously fry of all kinds of sizes swimming around in the tank. There were several coinhabitants, betta imbellis, betta edithae and malpulutta kretseri.
Really pretty fish, not very aggressive in densely planted tanks with sufficient territoria.

Thanks for the reply Eric!
I have since removed the male and have now a nice group of fryes swimming around!
Actually I moved the male to another 165 liters aquarium were he now lives together with the female and a group of Vietnamese Dwarf Cardinalfish (Tanichthys micagemmae), and yesterday they spawned again!
He doesn't do any attempt at all to chase the other fishes away unless they go too near to the nest!
