Hi all,

I'm moving to a new house, and after extensive negotiation with my significant other, I will have a fishroom.

Now how to build it is the next thing.

Any hints, tips, pictures welcome.

Some specs, 3*2(i hope)
fully isolated
no window
1 wall of ytong, plus door
what to do with the floor, it's concrete, but not really even
wastewater?
fully automated waterchanges


anything else i've forgotten??
How to get all this done is fase II, so if there is some experience here, please do respond!

Hi Eric,

at first you must say yourself, how much water litres you will be have there. If I´m supposing, that you want have prefer it for bettas and similar small fishes, you need more minor tanks (so between 15 - 30 ltr) and self-evident also any middle (35 - 50 ltr) and big tanks. For these fishes is needless have be big tanks as 200 and more large tanks, but perfect are as big tanks among so 80 - 120 ltrs.

When I had my first fishroom - where I was prefered bettas, colisas, dwarf cichlids, etc.; I had there four floors level steel stands and into that stands. I had there given tanks on 1 cm polystyren tapes (tapes were broad same as steel horizontaly profiles, where were nestled tanks). Gaps between every floors I had around 16 - 17 cm, it´s good for all manipulations.

Air for all tanks I took from central Airpump (very good are air pumps from Hagen - we say it "turtle" in size of production as 80 (good for fishrooms from 3 to 6 m3 breeder´s water). Divorce of air I had made as close circle from novodur pipes (60 mm average) and it were fixed on ceiling of fishroom - if anybody stop electric energy (from storm or any repairing works from distributors and any accident etc.), your air system don´t have be sucking of water from tanks. From these novodur (by us plastic material for waste piping from kitchens and bathrooms) pipes I have all divorce of air driven in classic aquaristic hosepipes and before every tank I have there small plastic faucet ventil. On end of hosepipes I have biomolitan filter (from blue porous mass). It´s mamimal simple and practic for work.
With I want selecting new Airpump, I have take so big, what´s giving 2.5 x more air with null level of water, than is whole content of water in my fishroom. It´s sufficient performance for it. General sucking I have in through the wall from open-air and in beginning I have made air filter climatic chamber with paper filter for car. It safe all air system before dust from out.

Stands are best made from stainless steel, but if it so much expensive, I take only normal steel and give on it one layer of color and two layers of synthetic colors. Necessary equipment for fishroom is drier of air. I have one from any Italian firm (type DEU). It keep damp in fishroom in good conditions and it economize not only all equipments in fishroom, but also walls in my house before dampness.
Heating in fishroom is best warm water plastic pipes inside in floor board. On floor board are best keramic paving and good drainage with several canal holes. I haven´t any automatic systems for cleaning of water in tanks, because I make fishes with different specific needs and I never make same system of work with every tank.

All fishroom is good have be with perfect warm isolation. It economize too much energy and finances. So quite enough economize of heat secondary product from Hagen´s airpump and drier also. Both machines given any warm with their move.

In these home fishroom we need also any little corner for washing-up bowl and working place, where we have store all needs. But flakes food and another foods and chemical is better have be in another place out of fishroom. In fishroom you must have be also faucet for water hose for drench in tanks. If do you want be have blackwater fishes, you will be need also demineralization column or better is reverse osmosis machine. It´s other fact, that water from drier´s plastic bottle is also as destile water (so 15 - 20 micro Siemens).

I have four floors in my stands and up from upper tanks I have border of it in 220 cm high from floor board. For work in higher places I have good stainless steel folding lite moving stairs.

Lights. If you haven´t any window, it´s damage, because light from outside is better for plants. I have in my fishroom more (every 2 m above every lane between stands) lights with DZ fluorescent small tubes 11Watt (in 20 m2 fishroom I have ten light bodys). And it´s truth, that for plants it´s few, but for fishes good!
